Alfred Joseph Robert

ROBERT - Mr. Alfred Joseph, late of Prince Albert, SK passed away October 7, 2010 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 91 years. He was born on July 6, 1919 in Saskatchewan Forks, SK and had nine siblings. Alfred married his sweetheart Maria Stenstrom on November 25, 1942 and they enjoyed nearly 68 years together. In 1939 Alfred went into the army. He received his training in Prince Albert, Regina and Camp Shilo and went overseas in 1942. He served in England, France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. Alfred was a member of the Highland Light Infantry 3rd division and took part as a soldier in the Normandy invasion at Juno Beach. He returned home in Jan 01, 1946 at which time he and Maria bought a farm in the Weldon area. They later bought a theater and caf in Arborfield. He worked for many years at the Department of Natural Resources where he became a Journeyman Carpenter. When the DNR was phased out he spent some time as manager of the Co-op Fisheries in Pelican Narrows. Later he worked for the Department of Northern Saskatchewan where he stayed until he retired. Alfred and Maria raised 3 children together a son Randy, and two daughters - Kimberley and Selena. Dad was a loving father always willing to lend a hand and was never one to sit around. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and delighted them with his frog noises and other little sayings, often in French. Alfred loved to fish, enjoyed sitting in his chair in his later years watching the birds in his bird feeders. His greatest love was for his wife Maria. Alfred is survived by his loving family, his wife Maria Robert of Prince Albert; his son Randy (Lorna) Robert; his daughters Kimberley (Zane) Dmytryshyn and Selena (Charlie) Archibald; his grandchildren: Kjirsten Robert, Chad Robert, Robyn Robert, Carmen Dmytryshyn, Shannon Schaeffer, Adin Dereniwski and Heidi Robert; his great grandchildren: Kaitlin, Finley, Calem, Brynn and Hawkley; his two brothers: Albert (Sheila) Robert and Raymond (Deanna) Robert. Alfred was predeceased by: his infant son Robyn; his brothers: Robert (Ethel), Edward (Agnes) Robert and Joe Robert (Phyllis) Edmond Robert; his sisters: Albina (Sid) Clark; Emma (Russel) Hunter and Eriene (Vincent) Holmes; his parents Victor and Anna (nee Desormeau) Robert; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 2:00 pm in Northern Funeral Service-MacKenzie Chapel, 130-9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Rev. Claude Tucker officiating.
