Gregory Devenis Obituary

Gregory Anton Devenis, late of Birch Hills, SK, passed away in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 44 years. Greg was born Aug. 12, 1968 in Birch Hills, SK. After graduating high school, he worked as a farm labourer for a year. He went to Kelsey Institute and took the Agriculture Machinery Technician course. He was employed at Co-op Implements for 3 yrs as an apprentice mechanic & parts-man. In 1991 he received his Journeyman Agriculture Mechanic Technician Certificate. Spring of 91, Greg worked for Tonto Mining located at Jolu Gold Mine for 5 weeks for shutdown as it was no longer being mined. A new mine was going into production called Seabee Gold Mine and he worked there for 3.5 years as a mechanic & mechanical supervisor. In the fall of 94 he quit and worked for Procon Mining at Contact Lake and then Waddy Lake. In the summer of 95, Greg bought a farm west of Birch Hills and raised cattle. He was married with two step children - Melissa & Brandon. He disliked working away from home then so he was employed at Farm World in Kinistino, SK. On Jan. 14, 1998 Layne Catherine arrived on his mom Joans birthday and 3 years later on Oct. 19, 2000 Drew Isabell completed the family. They were then living in Lloydminster where Greg was employed with Trican Oil Services as a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic. In 2006 he transferred to Provost, AB where he worked for a year. Greg was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1999 and by 2007 he was no longer able to work so he moved back to Birch Hills to be with family & friends. His mom cared for him for a year and a half. As the MS progressed, more specialty care was needed so he moved to Mont St Joseph care home where his Grandma Braaten also resided. Greg was a loving and caring father, special uncle, brother and friend. He was an avid Roughrider fan and loved a good game of crib -especially playing with his daughter Layne. Some of his hobbies were farming with his dad, fishing, hunting, hanging out with friends and collecting model tractors. Greg passed away Nov 30, 2012 at Mont St Joseph Nursing Home. He is survived by his girls: Layne & Drew; his stepchildren: Melissa & Brandon; his mom: Joan; his sister: Debbie (Calvin) Braaten; his brother: Todd (Anna); his nieces: Mackenzie & Alexis; his grandpa: Albert Braaten: as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
