Ila Dodds Obituary

Ila Margaret Dodds, late of Saskatoon and formerly of Prince Albert, SK, passed away peacefully November 4, 2011 at Sherbrooke Nursing Home in Saskatoon. Ila is survived by her son, David (Erika) Dodds of Saskatoon; and grandchildren, Janis Dodds of Saskatoon and Marnie (Craig) Olson of Glasgow, Scotland and their mother Diane Dodds of Saskatoon. She was predeceased by Earl, her husband of sixty-six years; her parents Ethel and John Raymond, and infant grandson Bryan Dodds. Ila was born July 24, 1921 in Moose Jaw and grew up on farms near Stalwart, SK and Pense, SK. Through those years, she enjoyed a close relationship with the W.A. Robinson family. Ila attended one-room schools before going to business school in Regina. Her first job was as teller in the Royal Bank at Craik, SK and it was at the local United Church where she first met Earl. Earl was teaching in Craik but, after enlisting with the RCAF, he was located at various bases in Western Canada. They were married April 10th, 1943 in Prince Albert where Earl was then a pilot instructor. Following the war, they ran a restaurant in Craik, and from there, Ila had several business and secretarial jobs: Craik municipal secretary, Secretary-Treasurer of Davidson School Unit, accounting with Saskatchewan Timber Board in Prince Albert and, after completing a teacher training course at the University of Saskatchewan, business teacher at Riverside Collegiate. In retirement, she and Earl lived at Green Acres, just north of P.A. and she made a small business of preparing tax returns. In her 80s, she and Earl spent several enjoyable years in the riverbank apartment Marquis Towers surrounded by many friends and their favorite places such as the Legion and the Co-op. To be closer to their son, David, the most recent years were at Caleb Manor and Sherbrooke nursing home in Saskatoon. Memorial Service will be held in P.A. at Mackenzie Chapel on Monday, July 9th at 11:00 am and lunch will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Prince Albert. In lieu of flowers, Ilas preference was a donation to the Prince Albert Royal Canadian Legion at 133-8th Street East, Prince Albert. Ilas family are grateful for help from home care workers in Prince Albert and special thanks go to the staff at Reminiscent Way, Sherbrooke Nursing Home for their excellent care, kindness, and support. Arrangements in care of Northern Funeral Service, MacKenzie Chapel. Brian and Bev Stobbs, Funeral Directors. 306.763.8488 www.northernfuneralservice.ca
