Katherine Bodnarchuk Obituary

BODNARCHUK- Katherine, late of Winnipeg, formerly of Prince Albert. Katherine passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 95 years. She was born in the Hafford area and in 1929 married Michael Bodnarchuk. They were blessed with four children: Irene Maruschak, Orest (Sylvia) Bodnarchuk, Sylvia (John) Zuk and Angeline (Clifford) Schick. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Sandra (Oliver), Laurie, Donna (Dean), Rock (Janet), Regan (Lori), Raechel (Gary), Liesl (Corey), Lorelei (Tony), James (Jody), Heidi (David), Joshua and Leilani and treasured great grandchildren: Adria, Nicholas, Tyson, Jayden, Matthew, Ryan, Chance, Desiree, Syrina, Randy, Jackson, Sierra, Brett, Jordan, Logan, Avery, Euphemia, Luke and many nieces and nephews. Katherine was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Hafia; brothers: Mike, Nick, William and Peter; sister Maria and son-in-law Tony Maruschak. She is the last of her generation of the Kowalchuk and Bodnarchuk families. Moms first priority was her beloved family-the last to sleep and the first to rise without a sign of weariness or fatigue, always present for whomever needed her. She has left a legacy of admiration, determination, dignity and respect to those who loved her and to those who knew her casually. She had many roles in life, being a farmers wife, a general merchant and the post master at Foxford until her retirement at age of sixty-five. Gardening, reading, cooking, knitting, quilting, collecting teaspoons and special poetry, travelling Western Canada and Australia, researching and completing the family tree and hosting dinners were things she loved to do. Each year her quilts and collections were exhibited at the P.A. Exhibition and she delighted in the awards she often received. She belonged to the Foxford and Meath Park Recreation Centers and the P.A. Community Clinic Fitness Group. For the past ten months, Katherine resided at Park Manor Personal Care Home, Winnipeg where she enjoyed her own room, fitness, beauty day, musical entertainment, church, kisses from Margaret, her tomatoes and cucumbers in the Homes garden, the outdoors with Angie, sitting with Cliff in the afternoon and especially the good night kisses and Ill see you tomorrow from Angie. Thank you to Charles Toop for your twenty-five years of dedication in maintaining a home that loved, nurtured and encouraged the elderly to live a dignified life according to their capabilities. Heartfelt appreciation to the nursing, care, and recreation staff for their hours of devotion in making everyone feel loved, cared for, and secure. Thank you to the Concordia Hospital staff for your compassionate care and for holding Moms hand when Angie was not there. We love you dearly, Mother, Baba, and friend. You will be greatly missed.
